Lead story

Commercial manufacturing / Bend

Lonza plans commercial spray-drying capacity with more than 80 initial jobs

Lonza plans to build a large-scale commercial PSD-4 spray-drying facility in Bend, Oregon. The company says the facility will contain two PSD-4 units, with room for future expansion, and is expected to be completed in 2029.

Lonza says the project will initially create more than 80 new jobs and extend its particle-engineering and bioavailability-enhancement work into a larger commercial-scale hub. The capital amount and hiring schedule were not disclosed.

Why it matters

A two-unit build-out points toward phased future work in process and facilities engineering, validation, quality, environmental controls, manufacturing operations, and particle science. The facility is planned, not yet operating.

Neuroimmunology / Priority Review

Roche's Enspryng application receives FDA Priority Review in MOGAD

The FDA granted Priority Review to Roche's supplemental application for Enspryng in myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease, with an action date of January 10, 2027. Roche says the Phase III METEOROID study showed a 68% relative reduction in adjudicated relapse risk versus placebo.

The result is company reported. Priority Review sets a shorter review goal; it is not approval and does not establish that commercial hiring will follow.

Hematology / Initial Phase 2 data

Disc reports early RESTORE-PV findings

Disc Medicine reported initial open-label Phase 2 results for bitopertin in polycythemia vera. Among 13 cohort A participants who completed 26 weeks, mean phlebotomies declined from 4.0 before treatment to 0.6 during treatment, and 61.5% were phlebotomy free.

The 13-person completed cohort sits within 40 participants enrolled overall. The data are preliminary, company reported, nonrandomized, and investigational.

Rare disease / Fast Track

Sobi's pacritinib receives Fast Track in VEXAS

The FDA granted Fast Track designation to Sobi's pacritinib for VEXAS syndrome. Sobi says the Phase II PAXIS study is ongoing.

Fast Track can support more frequent FDA interaction and potential review efficiencies. It is not approval and does not establish clinical benefit.

Respiratory medicine / Development financing

Ethris and the EIB sign €30 million in financing

Ethris and the European Investment Bank signed a €30 million financing agreement under HERA Invest. Ethris says the financing will support further clinical development of the nasal antiviral ETH47, including progress from Phase 2a toward Phase 2b studies in asthma and COPD, plus broader mRNA respiratory programs.

The financing provides capital for future execution; it does not represent completed clinical development, a guaranteed milestone, or a quantified hiring plan.

Thursday volume rises from last week

JobReports added 818 active biotechnology and pharmaceutical opportunities from 102 employers between midnight Eastern and today's cutoff. That is 42.3% above the 575 opportunities in the comparable Thursday window one week earlier. Commercial and business was the largest named role family, followed by clinical and medical work.

These are active opportunities first captured by JobReports before cutoff, not employer-supplied posting times. Role-family and location classifications are directional. The hiring sample is independent of today's news announcements and does not imply those companies created these jobs.

The takeaway

Planned capacity and advancing programs widen the execution map.

A commercial-scale facility carries a quantified future jobs signal. A Priority Review, early Phase 2 data, Fast Track status, and program financing each move different workstreams forward with clear evidence limits. Today's verified openings offer a separate route into automation, computational science, scientific writing, aseptic manufacturing, and clinical research.
